A portfolio that its owner can run.
Andrea is an illustrator. The brief was a portfolio that looks like her work and that she can keep current on her own, in two languages, without a developer in the loop.
The problem
Most illustrator portfolios go stale
The work changes constantly, the site does not. Either the artist pays someone every time a project lands, or the site slowly stops representing them. \n Andrea needed the opposite: a site she could update the afternoon she finished something.
The approach
A back office built for one person
A Django REST backend with authentication and a PostgreSQL store, and a React frontend that reads from it. Projects, images and copy are all editable from a private admin, with a markdown editor for longer text. \n Every project carries both language versions, so translating is part of writing rather than a separate job.
The result
She has not needed me since
The site is live and she maintains it herself. The part I am pleased with is not the stack, it is that the handover actually held.
